The Kent Club visit Worshipful Company of Carmen Event
July 16 @ 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Kent Club is glad to be part of a Ceremony embedded in the City Of London Culture
The Cart Marking Ceremony
During the annual cart marking ceremony – a ceremony that has been in existence for over 500 years – around 50 vehicles of all types from horse-drawn wagons to bicycles, steam engines and modern electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, line up to be branded with a hot iron showing that they are licensed to operate within the City of London.
Branding is carried out by the Worshipful Company of Carmen, and the custom is believed to be one of the earliest forms of vehicle registration in the world. It’s one of the largest events in the City calendar, and visitors can just turn up on the day to enjoy the event.
The Lord Mayor in his full regalia will also be present, to add to the spectacle.
And this year, for the first time ever, Carmen will also hold a Concours d’élégance as a part of the Cart Marking Day where some of the finest vintage cars (pre-1930) will be on display.
