Kent Club members enjoyed a rare opportunity to step behind the doors of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in Whitehall for an exclusive private tour led by retired diplomat Graham Holland.
The visit offered a fascinating insight into the history, architecture and diplomatic significance of one of the United Kingdom’s most important government buildings. Members explored some of its most impressive ceremonial spaces, including the magnificent Durbar Court, the Grand Staircase, the historic Locarno Suite and the richly decorated India Office Council Chamber.
Throughout the tour, Graham shared stories of diplomacy, architecture and the people and events that have shaped British foreign policy from within these remarkable surroundings.
With access to areas rarely experienced by the public, the visit provided members and guests with a memorable perspective on Britain’s diplomatic heritage and another distinctive Kent Club experience.
