Under the stewardship of our Membership Officer, WBro Norman Jones, The Kent Club rounded off the year with a fascinating journey through history as members and guests gathered at the British Museum for our Christmas British Museum Tour – Sacred Secrets Revealed, led by renowned historian and author WBro Mike Neville.
Over the course of an engaging 90-minute tour, Mike brought to life the remarkable connections between the ancient world, Biblical history, and the symbolism found within Freemasonry. Moving through one of the world’s greatest collections of antiquities, attendees explored artefacts spanning thousands of years, discovering how many of the themes and traditions familiar to Freemasons have their origins in ancient civilisations.
Highlights included the enduring influence of Ancient Egypt on Masonic symbolism, the history surrounding King Solomon’s Temple, the remarkable achievements of Cyrus the Great and Nehemiah in rebuilding the Second Temple, and the dramatic account of Titus and the destruction of Jerusalem. Members were also captivated by artefacts associated with significant Biblical figures and an intriguing insight into the historic connections between Freemasonry and the British Museum itself.
As always, WBro Mike Neville’s exceptional knowledge, engaging storytelling, and ability to connect historical evidence with Masonic tradition made for a memorable and thought-provoking afternoon. His enthusiasm ensured that every exhibit told a story, leaving attendees with a deeper appreciation of both history and the symbolism that continues to inspire Freemasonry today.
Following the tour, many of the group continued the festive spirit over food and refreshments, enjoying the opportunity to reflect on the afternoon’s discoveries and share lively conversation with fellow members and guests.
The Kent Club extends its sincere thanks to WBro Mike Neville for another outstanding presentation and to WBro Norman Jones for organising and overseeing the event. It was a fitting way to conclude another successful year of educational and social activities, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to many more memorable events in the year ahead.
